Past and Present

With the rebirth of swing dancing in the mid-1990s a group of young dancers decided to form a swing dance performance group in order to expose other people to this “new” dance and to share their love of swing. Sponsored by the Savoy Swing Club, the fledgling group named itself “Emerald City Swing” to pay tribute to its hometown of Seattle, Washington.

As part of its mission to create and inspire interest in swing dancing, Emerald City Swing has performed throughout the Pacific Northwest for crowds from 40- 40,000. Past clients have included: Seattle Seahawks, Microsoft, and Weyerhaeuser. Additionally, the team has traveled to Canada on several occasions to present dance productions as well as swing workshops.

In addition to public and private performances, ECS has competed at regional and national swing dance competitions. ECS has placed first in the team division at the 1999, 2000 and 2001 Pacific NW Lindy Hop Championships team division and second place in 2003 and 2004.  In 2000, ECS represented the Pacific NW at the American Lindy Hop Championships, placing 3rd at this national competition.
